Leishmaniasis prevention
On the Mediterranean coast the prevalence of leishmaniasis runs very high. It is the disease that most justifies a prevention campaign in this area.

About this service
Leishmaniasis is transmitted by the bite of a sandfly of the genus Phlebotomus, active from spring until well into autumn. The parasite responsible is Leishmania infantum. A dog can be infected for months without showing anything, and by the time the symptoms appear the damage is done. That is why the test matters even in an animal that looks perfectly healthy.
Protection is built in layers: a repellent pipette or collar throughout the sandfly season, and vaccination for animals that test negative beforehand. No single layer is foolproof, but together they change the outlook. We have been running a prevention campaign in Jávea for years, and that is why.
- Screening test before the season starts
- Repellent pipettes and collars
- Vaccination after a negative test
- Monitoring of animals already diagnosed
